Get a Canon Rebel XT for less than anything on the web, Bestbuy screwup

Posted on November 11, 2007

So my friend was looking to get a new camera, (his first) to be exact, but he wanted something really nice. We were looking at the Rebels for a couple weeks, and he finally decided to get one, and here’s why..

This isn’t some scam or anything, but more like a complete screwup on Bestbuy’s part. If you are a rewards zone member, you more than likely got the packet they send out that gives you a certain percentage off. This round was 10% to 12% off almost everything. This is where the slipup came.

Normally, they have a disclosure saying, digital camera’s are off limits. This time, that was NOT printed on the coupon. In fact, you could get just about any damn camera you wanted for as long as the coupon was good.

I let him use my rewards card, and he got 12% off the Canon Rebel XT. The employee didn’t know what to do, as they normally don’t let you get that kind of discount on a camera like this. They had to do a manual override to get the discount to go through. But hey, it’s a really nice, much better than the Olympus E10 I have. If I’m lucky, Santa might get me one as well. In the end he paid a little over 500 for the camera and a 1 gig memory card.

So, with that said, make sure you read the back of those coupons Bestbuy sends you, you might find real sleeper in there.
